Quadbase Systems Announces EspressReport® ES v4.0

New enterprise server edition offers significant scalability enhancements, external security integration, and enhanced scheduling features

Santa Clara, CA -- December 23, 2005 -- Quadbase Systems, a leading supplier of Java™-based information delivery and presentation solutions, today announced the release of EspressReport® ES 4.0.  The new enterprise server edition offers a host of new features and configuration options.

EspressReport ES v4.0 offers significant scalability enhancements, allowing users to deploy large reports to thousands of users.  Powerful new features allow users to control the amount of memory used by EspressReport ES.  Very large reports now run efficiently in a virtual memory system when the amount of data exceeds a pre-set threshold.  This feature works for any report and any data source allowing users to pre-empt any memory utilization issues.  In addition, EspressReport ES can now be deployed in a clustered environment.  In the cluster, the central load balancing server directs client requests and report publishing/scheduling tasks to member servers, dramatically increasing the load that a deployment can handle.

EspressReport ES also provides new integration features.  Users can directly integrate EspressReport ES with their existing security models, either through database or LDAP server connections.  In addition EspressReport ES provides an API security interface that allows users to implement custom security models.  Other new API interfaces give users greater control over report/chart design interfaces as well as the contents of published report repositories.  New API listeners have been added to publishing and scheduling features that allow users to implement custom business logic throughout the reporting process.  Built-in reporting portals have been re-configured to use JTSL (Java Standard Tags), allowing Web developers to build interactive reporting portals without any additional back-end code.

New scheduling features allow users to re-run jobs that are missed due to server down-time.  In addition, several scheduler configuration features have been added that allow users to tune scheduling performance for large numbers of schedule jobs.  More scheduling functionality has been exposed via APIs providing even more programmatic flexibility for users.

The core of EspressReport ES is Quadbase's powerful Java reporting engine.  EspressReport is a strong fourth generation tool that contains the advanced reporting features that enterprise users demand.  Reports can be generated in highly formatted DHTML, print quality PDF, Excel spreadsheets, Rich Text files, and XML and CSV data dumps.  Layout options allow reports to be constructed with multiple tables, with built-in interactive drill-down capabilities.  Advanced scripting/formula features allow users to embed custom logic directly into report templates.
