An overhauled design tool heads up the extensive list
of new charting features
Santa Clara, CA -- December 31, 2002 -- Quadbase Systems,
a leading supplier of Java-based data delivery and presentation solutions, today
announced the availability of EspressChart v4.0. An extensive list of features
and enhancements have been added to the award-winning charting tool since the
last release over a year ago.
EspressChart allows both developers and end users to easily create
and configure professional looking charts, with the simple point-and-click Chart Designer
interface. For version 4.0 the Chart Designer has been re-designed in Swing to
provide a simpler, user-customizable design tool. The Designer interface can now be
launched via the API in custom configurations with full internationalization allowing
users to completely integrate it within their applications. In addition, the Chart
Designer includes a host of new tools to easily retrieve chart data as well. The
integrated Data Source Manager allows users to easily retrieve data from relational
databases, text files, XML files, EJBs, and even pass in Java object/array data.
For database data, several query tools are now provided allowing users to easily construct
database queries in a visual QBE environment.
The extensive object oriented API allows charts and chart templates
to be easily incorporated directly into HTML pages, or into applets, servlets, JSPs,
and applications. EspressChart allows users to export one of the over 30 different
chart types in a variety of graphic formats including PNG, GIF, JPEG, WMF, BMP, and a
new SVG (scalable vector graphics) export. Written in 100% pure Java, EspressChart
easily deploys on virtually any platform, and works well with most Java-compatible
application servers including WebLogic™, WebSphere™, IPlanet™ and Apache Tomcat™.
Version 4.0 adds several new chart options, including pie charts
with data series, and multi-axis overlay charts. Enhanced color palettes, and
default display options, improve the appearance of un-formatted charts. Chart
appearance is further improved with the addition of anti-aliasing features.
Version 4.0 also includes a more expansive drill-down capability, allowing users
to rely on data relationships within relational databases to link series’ of
charts. For more information about the new release is available at
