Quadbase Systems releases EspressChart® 3.5

New features strengthen EspressChart's leadership position as the enterprise charting solution of choice for the Web.

Santa Clara, California -- February 5, 2001 -- Quadbase Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of Java-based tools and applications, today announced the release of EspressChart 3.5, the powerful and versatile tool for creating and publishing dynamic charts and graphs on the Web.  Version 3.5 adds many new functionalities to the already impressive array of EspressChart features.

Using EspressChart, Web developers and end users can easily create and configure professional looking charts with the simple point-and-click Chart Designer interface.  Charts and chart templates can be incorporated directly into HTML pages, or into applets, servlets, JSPs, and applications using EspressChart's powerful, yet easy to use object oriented API. End users can view and interact with charts and graphs using the Chart Viewer applet on any Java enabled browser, or view them as static images. EspressChart allows charts to be exported in many popular graphic formats including: PNG, GIF, JPEG, VRML, WMF, and BMP.  Chart data can also be exported in text and XML formats.  EspressChart provides seamless connectivity to a wide range of data sources including: Oracle, DB2, MS SQL Server, text files, and XML files.  Written in 100% pure Java, EspressChart can be used on all major operating systems including: Solaris, Windows NT/98/2000, Linux, HP-UX, and IBM S-390, AS/400 & AIX.

EspressChart is also available as a JavaBean and Swing component, allowing it to be used with development tools such as Visual Café, Jbuilder, IBM's Visual Age for Java, and MS Visual J++. Chart properties can be set visually with the bean version of Chart Designer in any IDE that supports the customizer feature.  In addition, EspressChart supports most J2EE compliant application servers including: WebSphere, WebLogic, Dynamo, SilverStream, and iPlanet.

EspressChart offers the most comprehensive set of charting features available. Users can create and customize charts choosing from over 30 two and three dimensional chart types.  Employing advanced algorithms, EspressChart provides true 3D rendering allowing light source modification, pan/zoom, rotation, and real-time animation.  EspressChart also allows users to input data from multiple sources, and build many different types of composite and combination charts.  In addition, EspressChart enables dynamic data drill-down, parameterized charts which accept user input for data filtering, user definable legends, run-time value substitution for text, chart annotation, chart printing, http tunneling, and more.  EspressChart also allows for complex data analysis, supporting histograms, Pareto charts, box and radar charts, trendlines, and normal distribution curves.

Along with many new chart options including: vertical box charts, overlay combination charts, double value line charts, and drop bar charts, EspressChart 3.5 now has multiple time zone/locale support.  Time, date and numeric format can be displayed differently depending on the locale where the chart is being viewed.  New customization features allow users to replace ticker labels, and add their own data top label. New EJB examples are included, and version 3.5 now allows map files to be exported as an outputstream.  Also, users can now specify the control range area for most two-dimensional charts.
