Quadbase Systems Inc. ships version 2.0 of EspressChart

EspressChart continues to be the easiest way to add dynamic charts to your Web pages

Santa Clara, Calif. -- April 29, 1999 -- Quadbase Systems Inc., a leading supplier of Web-based tools and Open Client/Server DBMS technologies, announced an exciting new release of EspressChart, a versatile tool that allows developers as well as end-users to easily create and publish dynamic graphic charts on the Web. EspressChart consists of Chart Designer, Chart Viewer, Chart Server and a simple, yet powerful object oriented API.  EspressChart v2.0 supports Sun's JDK 1.2. The unique Chart Designer enables visual chart creation and editing. It is available as an applet running in a Java-enabled browser, a JavaBean and an application. Chart Server performs file I/O, access to JDBCä /ODBC data sources and data caching on the Web server.  Chart Viewer allows end-users to view dynamic charts with a Web browser.  Web/database developers and/or end-users can quickly design a professional looking 2D/3D chart with just a few keystrokes and mouse clicks.  The resulting chart template can either be incorporated into applets/applications using Chart API or directly into an HTML page. Charts can be exported in BMP, GIF and JPEG formats.  Developers can build server-side applications that utilize the export features to generate dynamic charts for browsers without up-to-date Java support.

EspressChart supports thirteen basic chart types in both 2D and 3D, trend lines, control chart and twenty-nine combination charts.  Advanced algorithms were employed to provide fast, true 3D presentation quality graphics that supports light source, pan/zoom, rotation, real-time animation and Gouraud shading.  Charts can be scheduled to run at pre-set time intervals with refreshed data.  Advanced features include printing; support for spreadsheet formats; support for time-series data analysis; 2D/3D scroll and zoom, effectively allowing charts of any size independent of screen size and resolution; histogram; Pareto chart; origin shifting; and variable point object size for plotting. Exciting new features in version 2.0 include: data drill-down; parameterized charts which accepts user input for data filtering; run-time value substitution for text; annotation for chart elements; user configurable chart-type jar files; swappable primary/secondary axis in combo c harts.  Data for plotting can be input from RDBMSs such as Oracle, DB2, MS SQL Server etc., text files, via arguments in the API, or parameters in the HTML page.

EspressChart runs on Windows NT, Windows 95, Solaris, HP-UX and IBM platforms including S-390, AS/400 and AIX. The full development license includes a CD-ROM and User's Guide. Please contact Quadbase for pricing.
