Quadbase Systems Announces EspressReport® v4.0

New client-server architecture and internationalization options simplify complex deployments.

Santa Clara, CA -- May 11, 2004 -- Quadbase Systems, a leading supplier of Java™-based information delivery and presentation solutions, today announced the availability of EspressReport® 4.0.  The new version adds 50 new features and enhancements to Quadbase’s powerful reporting tool.

EspressReport is a sophisticated reporting solution from Quadbase Systems. Written in pure Java it allows users to develop and deploy professional-looking reports across virtually any platform.  With the robust API, users can easily integrate reporting into servlets, JSPs, and applications to deliver Web and print ready content on the fly.  The template-based reporting system extends report design capabilities to end users with the powerful, easy to use Report Designer UI.  With its flexible design and extensive features, EspressReport can handle virtually any reporting requirement from the simple output of application data to detailed presentations of corporate information.  EspressReport can generate reports in HTML/DHTML, text, CSV, XML, Rich Text, PDF, and Excel formats.

New client-server architecture
In version 4.0, the EspressManager component can be deployed as a servlet.  This allows users running the Report Designer and Scheduler interfaces to deploy them in a client-server configuration without running a separate application process on the server-side.  In this configuration all client-server communication is handled through http with the app server/servlet container, allowing users to avoid any port conflict or firewall issues.

Enhanced drill-down and sub-report capabilities
Version 4.0 adds several new parameter options for sub-reports.  Parameterized sub-reports can take values from a column in the main report (linked), or take values from a parameter in the main report or another sub-report (shared), or have independent parameters with user-supplied values.  In addition to clicking on column values to trigger report drill-down, users can now drill-down directly on charts in a report.

New internationalization support
New internationalization features allow users to export reports in many different languages from a single installation.  Users can set the text encoding to be used for a particular export, as well as the HTML encoding for HTML/DHTML exports.

Enhanced CSS support
Several new CSS support features have been added to EspressReport.  Users can import their own CSS definitions to mark-up the DHTML report export, and also to format the HTML parameter forms.  In addition CSS definitions for the elements in a report can be exported separately for use in other reports and Web/application pages.
