Quadbase Systems Announces EspressReport® v3.0.2 With Support for Mac OS X™ and WebObjects™

Along with extended platform support, EspressReport also enhances performance, and provides new deployment tools.

WWDC 2003, SAN FRANCISCO -- June 23, 2003 -- Quadbase Systems, a leading supplier of Java™-based information delivery and presentation solutions, today announced the release of EspressReport v3.0.2.  The new version adds several features and enhancements, and provides full support for Mac OS X and WebObjects, Apple’s Java application server for Web publishing and enterprise application development.

EspressReport is a sophisticated reporting solution from Quadbase Systems. Written in pure Java it allows users to develop and deploy professional-looking reports across virtually any platform.  With a robust Java API, and extensive design interfaces, EspressReport supports virtually any reporting requirement from the simple output of application data to detailed presentations of corporate information.  EspressReport can generate reports in HTML/DHTML, text, CSV, XML, Rich Text, PDF, and Excel formats.

“We are very excited about this release,” said Fred Luk, President of Quadbase Systems.  “System interoperability has been key to the success of EspressReport in the development community, so support for Apple platforms is a natural progression, and it gives us a new growth opportunity.”

“Mac OS X and WebObjects are built with open standards to give developers and end users the flexibility to work the way that is best for them,” said Ron Okamoto, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations.  “With EspressReport's support for Mac OS X, Mac users benefit from a full-featured tool for that takes advantage of open standards to easily work across applications as well as online through a Web browser.”

With version 3.0.2, Quadbase now offers powerful information, reporting and visualization capabilities for the Mac.  The Swing-based GUI components including the Report Designer, Chart Designer, and query interfaces have been optimized for Mac OS X.  Mac OS X users can launch the Report Designer as an application, or as an applet through a Web browser, and easily build compelling data presentations in a point-and-click environment.  For development and deployment, the API classes can be fully integrated within WebObjects 5, and run within a WebObjects application.

Also in version 3.0.2 are several new API interfaces that make it easier to deploy parameterized reports.  With just a few lines of code, an HTML form can be automatically generated that allows the user to select parameter values based on information stored in the report template, and run the report.  Performance for generation of large reports has been optimized, establishing EspressReport as a formidable enterprise-class report engine.
