Santa Clara, CA, February 2018 - We are excited to announce the support of Linux container. Currently the container images supported are for EspressReport ES (ERES) running on Redhat and Ubuntu.

A Linux container is a set of processes that runs from a distinct image that includes all necessary files such as code, libraries, environment variables, and configuration files. It runs completely isolated from the host environment by default, and only accesses host files and ports if configured to do so. By providing an image that contains all of an application’s dependencies, it is portable and consistent as it moves from development, to testing, and finally to production

Docker, an open source technology, is currently the most well-known project and method for deploying and managing Linux containers.
ERES 7.0 is a certified Docker Container in RedHat Connect. With Docker installed, the container is available with the following command on the Linux system.

The ERES 7.0 Ubuntu based image is published in Docker Hub. To retrieve the container image, use the following command.

Quadbase Systems Inc. continues to push the envelopes in BI, visual analytics and operational reporting functionality. Among other enhancements, this version revamps the UI and makes dashboard builder, ad hoc reporting, and map designers more powerful, user friendly and easier to use.
EspressReport ES is an enterprise BI and operational reporting and KPI dashboard publishing system that allows users to easily create and publish reports, charts, maps and dashboards as well as schedule reports and charts without any programming.  ERES is ideal for organizations that need to implement a web-based enterprise, all in one reporting system for decision support, as well as performance monitoring and management. EspressDashboard offers the same functionality as EspressReport ES except that the full featured report writer and scheduler is not available. The focus is for the user to easily make dashboards.
The user can now access the report writer, chart designer and map builders in the dashboard builder to make new components or edit existing components without leaving it. The dashboard builder also supports responsive layout for better displaying on mobile phones. Chart types can be changed dynamically on the dashboard.  For improved ad hoc reporting, the QuickDesigner lets the user  pick a data source and then construct the report/chart in a single page UI. To make a report, drag and drop columns. Apply grouping, aggregation, sorting and formatting . Then apply style for finishing touches. Parameters are displayed on the right pane. To make a chart in QuickDesigner, simply pick a data source. Apply column mapping.  Choose a chart type. Then apply desired chart options to finish. We are very pleased to announce the support for the popular Big Data platform, Hadoop, Hive and Spark. You can now use Quadbase’s Espress family products to visualize, report and analyze virtually unlimited volume of data with ease and high performance and superb scalability.

Apache Hadoop is an open-source software framework that enables the distributed processing of large data sets across clusters of commodity servers. It provides massive storage for any kind of data, enormous processing power and the ability to handle virtually limitless concurrent tasks or jobs, with a very high degree of fault tolerance and readily scales up to thousands of server. Running in conjunction with Hive and Spark, the user can use standard SQL syntax to retrieve data. With Spark’s in memory algorithm, performance can be up to 100 times faster than Hadoop’s two-stage disk-based MapReduce approach.

It is easy to setup connections to Hadoop data source. Configuration including Hive and Spark is required. A JDBC drive that supports this configuration is bundled with the products. Choose Hadoop data source in the data registry and specify the driver and URL with the following format:

JDBC Driver class name: com.cloudera.hive.jdbc4.HS2Driver
URL format: jdbc:hive2://<Servername>:<Serverport>/<Databasename>

Once this is set up, the user will be able to make queries and build reports/charts, dashboards seamlessly in the same way as using any supported database sources.
